Counting Calories - A closer look at how the pounds add up or disappear!
Food for thought! Counting calories = control
Freshman-15 doesn’t happen overnight, it’s a slow but steady transition. You start out consuming as little as 50 to 100 calories a day and over time that adds up to several pounds.
Let's break it down for you using plain and simple math.
Understanding how many calories it takes to gain a pound of fat can help to explain how this happens.
Simply put!
One pounds of fat is equal to approximately 3500 calories
This means if you eat an extra 350 calories of food a day, which is about equal to a large piece of cake or pie, or a medium smoothie shake, you would gain an extra pound every 10 days (350x10)
Or you would gain a pound in about 20 days if you eat or drank an extra 175 calories a day (175x20)
On the other hand, if you ate 175 fewer calories a day would mean you could lose a pound every 20 days
Or if the diet remained the same, but you burned an extra 175 calories a day by increasing your level of activity, you could lose a pound in about 20 days.
So there it is in a nutshell! Plain and simple math puts it all into perspective.
